Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken former Pakistan’s allrounder, Azhar Mehmood onboard as the bowling coach ahead of their New Zealand tour.
Mehmood previously has served as the bowling coach during Pakistan’s Asia Cup and the World T20 campaigns. He was also with the team as the bowling coach during limited overs games against England recently.
A PCB official told APP that the head coach, Mickey Arthur suggested some foreign names for the position, but, they could not rope them in due to financial issues. As a result, they have hired Azhar Mehmood for the post.
“Azhar’s first task will be the test series against New Zealand starting from November 17,” he told.
The official further told that the former allrounder was supposed to coach the team during their home series against West Indies, but, the contract was not finalized by the time. There was no other coach was approached for the job.
Pakistan is scheduled to play two test matches in New Zealand commencing from November 17. The board earlier announced the 16-men squad, Sharjeel Khan has earned the maiden test call for the tour as well.
