Pakistan Cricket Board seems to be active after the debacle in the Asia Cup and the World T20. The PCB has put up some short and long term plans in the light after inquiry committee’s recommendations, which are based on Waqar Younis and Intikhab Alam’s reports.
Short Terms Measures by PCB
The report presented by the fact finding committee that there are changes needed in the selection committee. As a result, the selection committee has been disbanded with the immediate effect and the announcement of the new selection committee is likely to be made soon.
Shahid Afridi was appointed as Pakistan’s T20 captain by the Chairman PCB till World T20 2016. As the tournament is wrapped up now, the board will appoint a new T20 skipper pretty soon. However, Shahid Afridi resigned from the captaincy before PCB could sack him.
Waqar Younis has stepped down from the post of Pakistan’s head coach and now the board will search a more suitable profile for the vacant post. A panel consisting of the legendary fast bowler, Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja will help the PCB to find the new coach.
As players’ fitness was coined as one of the major reasons behind Pakistan’s disastrous run during the big events, the PCB is likely to put fitness standards in their central contracts as a condition and fines can be imposed on players that do not match the desired the fitness standards.
As Pakistan’s next assignment is England’s tour in the summer 2016, the board is going to set up a boot camp for players’ fitness in Abbottabad with coordination of the Pakistan army to boost players’ fitness.
To cut down the negativity from media, a PCB spokesman is to be appointed shortly, who will handle all the media activities on regular basis on all issues.
To improve players’ fitness, the PCB will soon hire a dietician, who will guide players with the diet plan. On the other hand, to make cricketers mentally strong, a psychologist will also be taken on the board shortly.
Long Term Measures by PCB (implemented 3 to 6 months)
The committee has pointed towards the weak cricket structure in the country. As a result, a re-evaluation of the National Cricket Academy and the Game Development will be conducted soon by consulting the relevant stakeholders.
To improve the overall fielding standard in the country, a fielding and fitness schedule is to be implemented on all the first class teams and the players will only going to survive if they will attain the given standards.
An MOU has been signed by the cricket board according to which cricket will be organized in schools, universities and clubs throughout the country.
PCB will seek sponsorship for the regional cricket. After conducting the Pakistan Super League successfully, the board wants a similar sort of sponsored regional cricket. It can be extremely beneficial for Pakistan cricket.
Domestic structure is likely to revamped and a structure with fewer teams with fewer players is likely to be implemented for more competitive cricket.
Different committees in the PCB will also be restructured soon.
An important point issued by the PCB on pitches and curation. The standards for pitches are already presented by the board and pitches will be curated according to those standards. Good quality pitches will affect the competitiveness of cricket directly.
Pakistan had a bio-mechanical lab, but, it was non-functional for a long period of time. It is now getting functional with the coordination and cooperation of Lahore University of Management and Sciences.
