Peshawar Zalmi will lock horns with Lahore Qalandars tonight in Dubai in the sixteenth match of Pakistan Super League. Both the teams have six points to their name, however, Qalandars are ranked at second while Zalmi are ranked at fourth spot in the points table. Peshawar would like to improve their ranking by winning the contest, they will have 7 points. Whereas, if Lahore win, they will maintain their second spot with 8 points.
The last time these teams came head to head, it was a low scoring thriller where Lahore Qalandars almost defended a target of just 60 runs.
Peshawar Zalmi have come close to wins in the tournament, but could not finish the job. In the last game against Karachi Kings. The captain Darren Sammy and Shahid Afridi made the contest out of nothing but eventually fell nine runs short. It shows that they have the capability to knock down their opponent at any time.
On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars, under the ultra-aggressive captaincy of Brendon McCullum, are doing pretty well. They were out-performed by Quetta Gladiators in the last game when Kevin Pietersen took the game away from him with his 88-run blistering knock. Despite of that loss, Lahore Qalandars are a pretty dangerous side.
Qalandars are missing aggressive opener Jason Roy, who has gone gone back to England for national duty. They must be hoping that their skipper, Brendon McCullum joins the party with some flamboyant inning. For Lahore, Fakhar Zaman and Umar Akmal have been performing well, Grant Elliott finished the last game against Islamabad United and did the famous ‘bat drop’, so he must be confident also.
On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi will be more than happy to find their veteran allrounder, Shahid Afridi in form with the bat. He can change any game in the matter of overs with his powerful striking.
The contest between Peshawar zalmi and Lahore Qalandars can be extremely entertaining.
