As the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is around the corner, the cricket fans in Pakistan are following their favorite teams to know about their preparations as much as possible. At the same time, teams’ management are also making efforts to get in touch with their audience who is desperately looking forward to their team lifting the coveted title on March 17.
Where the fans are cheering up for their respective teams, there is the fanatical audience of the Yellow Storm (Peshawar Zalmi) who are making sure that their team will not only show their dominance but clinch the PSL’s trophy for the second time. Zalmi mean ‘Youth’ and promoting youngsters remained the top priority for Zalmi throughout their impressive PSL’s journey.
Zalmi, the victors of the second edition of the PSL, will once again be led by Windies star all-rounder Darren Sammy who got ‘Khan’ as an addition to his name by the passionate Pakhtoon fans who once offered him to stay in Pakistan permanently. Sammy is one of the major reasons of Zalmi’s fan following.
Sammy’s presence in Peshawar Zalmi squad as a captain worth the most to the side as his experience of leading the side in any T20 event is enough to give an edge to his team. He led Windies to two T20 World Cup triumph. The right-handed batsman has vast T20 experience with playing 68 matches. His hobbling inning against Quetta Gladiators in PSL three ensures that he can serve Zalmi in pressure situation cleverly.
Pakistan’s experienced all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has parted ways with Zalmi for the upcoming season which created a bit of concern for the team management as his ability to bat in the middle order helped them a lot in last three seasons. But when they picked Pakistan’s former Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq in players’ draft made their squad balanced enough. Misbah who led Islamabad united to two PSL wins is a worthy addition to the Zalmi’s squad.
He can bat patiently in a pressure situation and prior to that he can be at his best to manage the team’s position on the field alongside Sammy. Misbah is considered as one of the best Test captains Pakistan has ever got. And think when two strong captains will unite then how vigorous Zalmi will look in the upcoming extravaganza.
Another attractive addition to Zalmi was Kieron Pollard who played two seasons for Karachi Kings and appeared for the debutant Multan Sultans in the last edition of the PSL. Pollard who has immense exposure of playing international leagues around the world will not only serves Zalmi with the bat but also with his clever deliveries as the medium pace bowler. His blistering fielding ability will be icing on the cake for Yellow army. Playing 59 T20I matches, Pollard is well known for his power-hitting abilities. His last six for Karachi Kings in PSL 2 for qualifying to the Play-offs is still one of the memorable moments of the PSL.
Second highest run scorer of PSL 3, Kamran Akmal will once again throb with his power-hitting top the order for Zalmi. Liam Dawson and Dawid Malan are also one of the prominent members of Zalmi. Hasan Ali, Umaid Asif, Wahab Riaz and Sameen Gul will hold the bowling command of their team. Zalmi’s bowling line is one of the toughest units as it contains two of the national team members, Hasan and Wahab.
PSL 4 is surely going to be bigger and better than the previous seasons as it will feature some more renowned international cricketers. Let’s see can Peshawar Zalmi be able to add one more title under their belt.
