PHF hands central contracts to players despite fitness concerns


Lahore: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has handed central contracts to  players despite many failing to meet required fitness standards, ARY Sports reported.

PHF secretary Asif Bajwa, Chief Selector Manzoor Jr. and Head Coach Khawaja Junaid announced the names in a press conference.

National hockey team captain Rizwan failed to get a senior central contract. Senior players Azfar Yaqub, Amjad Ali also could not get central contracts.

Category A players will get Rs 50,000, Category B players will get Rs 40,000 and Category C players will get Rs 30,000. Emerging category players will get Rs 20,000 per month

“There will be no compromise on discipline and fitness,” Asif said.

“Athletes who do not meet the fitness standards will be given three chances. Substitutes will replace if any athlete fails to meet fitness standards in three months,” he added.

Category A: Umar Bhatta, Mubashir Ali, Ali Shan, Abu Bakar Tariq

Category B: Tazeem Al Hassan and Moin Shakeel

Category C: Waqar, Abdullah, Aqeel Ahmed, Umair Sattar and Roman Khan

Emerging category: Naveed Alam, Danish, Rizwan Ali and Obaidullah
