Sharjah: Karachi Kings defeated Islamabad United by eight runs under the duckworth-lewis method in a game played in Sharjah on Friday to register their first win in PSL 2017.
Karachi Kings’ skipper Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and as expected, elected to field first.
Islamabad United’s last match hero, Sam Billings failed to create any impact this time and became victim of Imad Wasim for a duck.
United’s key batting component, the experienced Aussie wicketkeeper Brad Haddin was also removed by the Kings’ slow left-arm bowler.
Dwayne Smith and Misbah Ul Haq tried to form a partnership and kept the scoreboard ticking.
The young leg-spinner Usama Mir created some serious problems for Islamabad United’s batsmen.
Usama Mir bowled brilliantly in the rain affected match and took two key wickets of Dwayne Smith and Misbah Ul Haq.
The game was reduced to 13-over a side due to rain. Shane Watson tried his put as many runs on the board as possible, he scored 26 off 14 balls.
Islamabad United scored 90/8 in 13 overs, however the target was revised to 95 runs in 13 overs for Karachi Kings.
Mohammad Irfan had two early strikes for Islamabad United in shape of Chris Gayle and Kumar Sangakkara for two runs each.
However, Babar Azam seemed unstoppable in the game.
He had a handy partnership of 29 runs in the context of the game with Shoaib Malik.
At a crucial stage, Shoaib Malik lost his wicket to Imran Khalid and Ravi Bopara was runout off a brilliant throw of Shadab Khan from point.
Karachi Kings were 75/4 with Babar Azam and Imad Wasim at the crease when rain ended the match, giving Karachi Kings their first win of PSL 2017 by 8 runs (D/L Method).
Babar Azam received the Man of the Match award for his brilliant inning of 47 runs off 30 balls with the help of five 4’s and two 6’s.
Karachi Kings will play their next game on February 19 against Peshawar Zalmi at Sharjah.
