LAHORE: A short training camp for Pakistan’s upcoming Test series has just commenced on Tuesday, which will be attended by eleven players at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Dawn News reported.
Pakistan’s Test skipper, Misbah Ul Haq along with the veteran middle-order batsman Younis Khan will also attend the short training camp.
There are speculations that it can be Misbah Ul Haq’s last Test series, whereas, Younis Khan need just 23 runs to become Pakistan’s first batsman to reach 10,000 runs in Test cricket.
Former ODI skipper, who has been dropped from the 50-over format team, is likely to feature in the Test series, he has been in supreme form in the longest format of the game. Moreover, Asad Shafiq, who has a successful Test run so far and striving to find a place in ODI squad, will train the at the camp.
Shan Masood and Sami Aslam have been called to attend the training camp and are likely candidates for the opening slot along with Azhar Ali.
Usman Salahuddin, who was once considered as the future of Pakistan cricket and was suddenly dropped from the scene, seems to finally get an opportunity to play for his country. The middle-order batsman is known to be a talented batsman.
However, Fawad Alam, despite of having a consistent run in domestic cricket and having top fitness, is once again overlooked.
Among bowlers, Sohail Khan, Rahat Ali and the leg-spinning sensation Yasir Shah are part of the training camp.
Among newcomers, fast bowler Mohammad Abbas, slow left-arm Kashif Usman and Asad Raza are also attending the camp with their senior pros.
The camp will end on 7 April, whereas the series against West Indies will kick off from 22 April.
