As Pakistan take on Sri Lanka in a virtual ‘quarter finals’ today in the Champions Trophy, Pakistan’s seasoned batsman Shoaib Malik will be playing today his 250th one-day international (ODI) match and his wife Sania Mirza seems to be excited on this cricketing feat of her husband.
In an interview, Sania Mirza, who is in the Cardiff to watch the Pakistan match said, “This achievement shows Shoaib’s commitment to Pakistan and to cricket, and I have always known him to be someone with full of passion for playing and representing his country. It is a very proud moment, not only for him, but for everyone including his mother, his siblings and myself. I am very proud of him for everything that he has achieved, and I wish him all the best.”
Sania has been a frequent face in attendance of spectators in Pakistan matches to support her husband. About her passion for cricket, the tennis star said, “Good change for me to watch some cricket as well. I love cricket, I love watching it. I saw the last live match when Pakistan beat South Africa.” She said she will watch Pakistan’s match against Sri Lanka also.
Shoaib Malik has played 249 ODI matches, and scored 6742 runs scoring nine centuries and 39 fifties. The off-spinning all-rounder has also bagged 153 wickets with best bowling figures of 4/19.
