There is a long list of dos and don’ts, normal and abnormal, rights and wrongs, decent and indecent, which are consciously or subconsciously, have been laid for the female gender of the society. However, Maryam Nasim, an Australia-based Pakistani powerlifter has become a role model for every Pakistani woman.
Maryam hails from Peshawar, Pakistan, but currently living and competing in Melbourne Australia. She has completed her graduation in accounting at Canberra University.
While living in Australia, Maryam observed that Australia has a very rich culture of sports. She discovered her love for powerlifting and decided to follow her dreams.
She got the recognition worldwide when she first won the silver medal in 57-kg category weightlifting competition in Melbourne.
Maryam works full-time in a bank, despite a hectic routine, She trains herself really hard, after leaving from work she goes for her training that shows her devotion and dedication towards her goal.
So far, Maryam has competed in two power-lifting competitions where she bagged silver and bronze medal.
In her last competition, Maryam won a bronze medal at the Avia Powerlifting competition in Melbourne, despite sustaining a back injury earlier.
Young powerlifter Maryam aims to motivate and train more women to take up the sport, she also runs a fitness blog, which is aimed to encourage people to look after themselves and their health in general.
