Pakistan has always been a country that has produced world class athletes. Some of those sportsmen never got the respect they deserved. Naseem Hameed is such a sportswoman, who deserved a lot of recognition but did not get it. As Pakistan is nearing her 70th Independence Day, let’s remember her glorious achievements.

Naseem Hameed came into limelight in 2010 when she conquered the race-tracks of Dhaka during 2010 SAF Games and won the Gold Medal in 100m event.

The sprinter was born on 1 May, 1988. She started taking part in races as a sprinter in her school. She was a consistent performer at school and college level.

She was once noticed by some Army officials and seeing her potential, they allowed her to practice in Army grounds near Korangi in Karachi.

When she won various local events, she was recruited by Pakistan Railways as an athlete.

Her consistency of performance in local events gave her the opportunity to represent Pakistan at the international stage.

She raced for Pakistan in 2010 SAF Games in Dhaka and emerged as the Fastest Woman of South Asia. But, she stopped competing after the event and it remained the pinnacle of her career.

Naseem Hameed now trains young athletes.
