Proteas World T20 squad announced

Cricket South Africa, on Wednesday, announced the T20 squad that will represent Proteas in the upcoming World T20 in India.

David Wiese and Rillee Rossouw have made a comeback into the national side after having missed the series against India due to an injury.

Meanwhile pacer Dale Steyn has also been inducted into the squad but his availability will be based on his fitness. Steyn has remained away from action due to his prolonged injury which also kept him out of the T20 series against India. CSA selection convener, Linda Zondi was pleased to see Dale Steyn’s return to the squad as he has vast amount of experience under his belt. She added that the team has a nice blend of both young and experienced players who have the experience of playing in the sub-continent.

“Dale’s return is very good news,” he added. “He brings tremendous experience and leadership to the team, not to mention his skills as the outstanding fast bowler of his generation.”, Linda said

“We have a lot of experience in this group with 10 of the players having played in the last World Twenty20 in 2014, also on the sub-continent,”

Proteas captain Faf Du Plessis will have the task of taking his team all the way in the tournament and hoped that the team will perform to the best of their ability and make sure that they lift the trophy this time around.

“The ICC World T20 is the competition that we have been working towards over the last 18 months,” he said. “We have had disappointments in the past and this year is another great opportunity for us to lift that elusive ICC trophy. We have been playing together as a squad for some time now and are really hungry and motivated to put in the performances to bring us success. I’m really excited about the group of players who will be representing the country and hope we can make everyone proud.”
