Pakistan’s only professional cueist, Hamza Akbar has finally got the cash reward from Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) announced on Tuesday.
Akbar won the Asian Snooker Championship 2015, for which country’s sports minister announced a Rs. 1.5 million reward for the man. However, the amount was not released till now.
Hamza Akbar was consistently asking for his prize money so that he can stay in UK and keep participating in the professional snooker events.
Since last year’s January, Sports Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada was working on his case after he got the instrictions to release the reward money to the cueist.
PBSA announced in a press release, “The PBSA is pleased to inform that the cash award of Rs1.5 million to Hamza Akbar — snooker player — for winning the Asian Championship for Pakistan in 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has been released by PSB. The cheque of Rs1.5 million has been received by the PBSA from the PSB to be handed over to Mr Hamza Akbar, former Asian snooker champion.”
Earlier, ARY News reported that Hamza Akbar had to return to Pakistan after his UK visa expired. He has to get his visa renewed soon so that he can participate in the China Open 2017.
