Former Australian flamboyant all rounder Shane Watson believes that Indian batting great Rahul Dravid is the ideal choice as coach of India cricket team.
The post of Indian head coach has been vacant for a year after Duncan Fletcher’s departure. Although Ravi Shastri was made team director but his contract also ended after the World T20 in India. Watson believes that Rahul Dravid is a quality individual and he knows a thing or two about his abilities through IPL and considers him the best option for Indian cricket.
“At the starting point, there is no doubt about the quality of person Rahul Dravid is. I was very fortunate to know him well while working with him at Rajasthan Royals (first as the captain) and (later as the) mentor and then learning about his cricketing abilities,” Watson told IANS.
“There is no doubt that he will do an incredible job if he gets the chance to coach India and also with Virat Kohli who is continuing to grow in this IPL as a leader. He is an incredible man. He has an amazing amount of experience to pass on to the youngsters,” added the 34-year-old Watson, who quit international cricket after the 2016 WT20.
Earlier Sunil Gavaskar and Harbhajan Singh have also backed Dravid’s name as head coach of Indian cricket team.
