Pakistan’s former Test batsman Ramiz Raja advised the national team’s openers to play the new ball cleverly to get rid of mighty Australians when they take on them in two-match Test series starting from November 21.
Raja, through his official Youtube channel, praised Pakistan’s splendid performance against Australia A in their first tour match. However, he pointed out a couple of weaknesses of the national team. Pakistan held drew against one of the strongest A teams of Australia in recent times.
“I am completely satisfied with the way they [Pakistan] outclassed Australia A, especially with the ball. But still, I think they need to improve in a couple of departments. Openers should take responsibility and try to play the new ball strongly. It will help them put pressure on the Aussies,” he said.
The cricket-turned-commentator believes that their strong performance in a practice match would have increased their confidence. “They needed a boost after a nightmare against Australia in the T20I series. I am sure this performance would have increased their confidence before Test series,” he said.
Talking about key options for Pakistan against Australia in Test series, Ramiz thinks that Yasir Shah is a wicket-taking option and should be given ample chances. “There is bounce on Australian pitches which will help Shah. He is a good spin option Pakistan have and I think he will deliver strongly,” he concluded.
