Rashid Latif questions selection policy in case of Zahid Mehmood

Karachi: Former Test cricketer Rashid Latif bashed team management’s selection policy after a couple of performers including Zahid Mehmood were ignored for the home tour against.

Speaking on PTV Sports, Latif said when players like Zahid are ignored then the selection policy must be questionable.

“Zahid’s performance is speaking itself. The bowler has potential and performance at the same time then why you are not selecting him,” Latif questioned.

“If a player hails from Dadu and playing from Southern Punjab and he performs but got neglected. At the same time, a player from KP gets selected in the same scenario then the selection policy will come in a huge question mark. Anyone with good understanding will realize the negligence of particular regions,” Latif continued.

Ex wicket-keeper batsman suggested team management to try players from different regions to generate interest in every nook and corner of the country. “If you select Zahid from Dadu, upcoming talent will get confidence there. You would have tried Bismillah Khan from Baluchistan to engage a lot of youngsters. If you want to attract different regions towards cricket, you have to pick players from those areas,” he concluded.

It must be noted here that the national team’s selection headed by Misbah-ul-Haq came under criticism after a few National T20 Cup 2020 performers were ignored. Reportedly, the list of players who were ignored includes Zahid, Danish Aziz, Zeeshan Ashraf, Sohaib Maqsood, and Aamer Yamin.
