Reigning champions Islamabad United will lock horns against the runners up of the inaugural edition of Pakistan Super League Quetta Gladiators today in Sharjah.

After a two-day rest in PSL, players will take the field of historic Sharjah cricket stadium. It is expected that a big crowd will attend the exciting contests of PSL and there will be high scoring matches there.

Islamabad United started off the campaign on a winning note where they outperformed Peshawar Zalmi when they chased down a revised total of 173 in 18 overs. Islamabad United have been going through a rough patch as their key player Sharjeel Khan has been suspended from PSL along with his teammate Khalid Latif for being allegedly involved in match fixing, however they still look pretty strong. They suffered a defeat in their second game of the league against Lahore Qalandars, but their performance was quite decent in that tense situation as well.

Islamabad United have roped in the experienced domestic opener Rafatullah Mohmand as a replacement of Sharjeel Khan, but he is unlikely to get a chance in tonight’s encounter.

On the other hand, Quetta Gladiators are looking solid so far and are the only ones that have won both of their PSL 2017 fixtures, they defeated Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings.

They have played two close games in the PSL and have stood victorious on both occasions, which depicts their maturity and mental toughness. They knocked down Lahore Qalandars in a slow scoring game, where they successfully defended a target of 137 runs. In the next game, they were chasing a big target of 160 runs and 30/3 at a stage. at that moment, Riley Russow, who is the highest scorer in PSL 2017 at the moment, had a match winning partnership with his captain Sarfraz Ahmed that took Gladiators over the line.

Tonight’s match on a batting friendly wicket of Sharjah is expected to be an thrilling one. Another exciting aspect of this game will be to see whether newly appointed ODI skipper Sarfraz Ahmed’s aggressive captaincy make difference or the most successful Test captain Misbah Ul Haq’s safe captaincy style steer Islamabad home.

The game is scheduled to be played at 9 PM (PST).
