Right-handed batsman Rohail Nazir scored match-winning 53 runs knock for Pakistan as they beat Afghanistan by eight wickets in their first match in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium, Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.
Rohail along with skipper Saud Shakeel (30*) put 70 runs together on the scoreboard for the third wicket and helped Pakistan chase down 139-runs target in 35.3 overs.
Earlier, Afghanistan, while batting first, bowled out for 138 runs. Their wicket-keeper batsman Munir Ahmed was the top scorer for them with 41 runs off 71 balls. He struck a boundary and two sixes.
Mohammad Mohsin was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan as he took four wickets conceding 30 runs. Amad Butt and Khushdil Shah bagged two wickets each.
In reply, Pakistan got a decent start from their openers Omair Bin Yousuf (38) and Haider Ali (16) who provided a solid 50-run partnership.
Later, Rohail and Saud finished the things well for the green shirts.
It must be noted here that Pakistan will play its second match against Sri Lanka on Saturday [16 November].
