Rooney is still a world class player

Spanish and Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera believes that Wayne Rooney is still a world class player despite the fact that he does not possess the speed that other Manchester United forwards such as the likes of Rashford and Martial do at the moment.

Rooney assisted the goal which got the Reds through against Norwich. His pass to Juan Mata resulted in a goal as the English player racked up his 5th assist of the season and kept them in the loop for the race towards the fourth place on the table.

“Wayne is a world-class player,” Herrera told reporters after the game at Carrow Road according to

“He’s a very good captain and he’s not selfish, so you always have to have Wayne in the team and in the dressing room. Some of the big players are so selfish sometimes but Wayne isn’t and that’s so important.”

“I know Marcus [Rashford] and Anthony [Martial] are quicker, but we know Wayne’s qualities,” said Herrera.

Goalscorer Juan Mata was also not shy of praising Rooney and considered the England player as one of the greatest of all time.

“Wayne does not have anything to prove. He is a great player and will always be a great player. He can play as a striker, a winger and a midfielder as he has shown in the last few weeks,” Mata is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
