Young Salman Ali Agha scored 38 runs to help Lahore Region Blues to pull off a convincing five-wicket victory over Rawalpindi Region in their match of the National T20 Cup at Multan Stadium on Wednesday.
With striking four boundaries during his knock, Agha made sure that Lahore were well balanced on the day.
Lahore after winning the toss invited Rawalpindi to set a target for them to chase. Rawalpindi in couldn’t make the most of an opportunity and managed to score just 118-8 in allotted 20 overs.
Haider Ali was the top scorer for Rawalpindi with 26 runs including three boundaries. Saad Nasim bowled brilliantly taking three wickets conceding 21 runs. Aziza Cheema also took as many wickets to help his team restrict the opponents on a paltry total.
Lahore reached the target with five balls to spare. Nauman Anwar (29) was the other prominent scorer for them. Raza Dar with the help of two boundaries contributed 26 to his team’s total.
Zahid Mansoor took two scalps for Rawalpindi while Asif Ali and Sohail Tanveer bagged one wicket each.
On the other hand, Lahore Regions Whites beat Islamabad Region by 22 runs in the second match of the day. Lahore brilliantly defended the target of 168 runs.
While batting first, Lahore made 167 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Skipper Salman Butt showed his brilliance by scoring 63 runs with the help of eight boundaries.
Wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal smashed eight boundaries and a six to score 54 runs. Saif Badar made 28 runs laced with three boundaries and a six.
Adeel Malik and left-arm pacer Junaid Khan shared one wicket apiece for Islamabad.
In reply, Islamabad lost eight wickets while chasing the target and fell 22 runs short. Abid Ali scored 30 runs. Bilal Asif, who currently showed his talent in test cricket while representing Pakistan against New Zealand and Australia, took three wickets.
Right-arm bowling duo of Umaid Asif and Ammad Butt went onto taking two wickets each to strengthen their team’s grip in the match.
On day three of the tournament, Lahore Regions Blues meets Rawalpindi Region while Lahore Regions Whites will face the challenge of Islamabad Region.
