Sarfraz looks confident ahead of New Zealand tour

Pakistan captain, Sarfraz Ahmed is confident ahead of the New Zealand tour to put up a decent show in ODI and T20i series against the Kiwis in their home ground.

Sarfraz Ahmed talked to media on Tuesday, where he stated that the team will look to keep up their winning momentum and they have the kind of combination that can beat New Zealand in their backyard.

“We have a strong bowling attack,” Sarfraz Ahmed said while talking to media. “Injuries to Imad (Wasim), Junaid (Khan) and Usman (Shinwari) are a setback, but (Mohammad) Amir, Hasan Ali and Rumman Raees are doing a great job.

“Moreover, induction of Amir Yamin, who has been bowling brilliantly in the domestic circuit, can also help Pakistan. I hope that the injured players will also make a comeback in the team soon” he said.

Sarfraz Ahmed accepted the fact that in absence of Pakistan’s key pacers, Junaid Khan and Usman Khan Shinwari, Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali will have more responsibility on their shoulders.

On a question regarding shuffling batting order as Sarfraz Ahmed had a decent run with the bat in World Cup 2015, where he scored a century against Ireland and a fighting 47 against a strong South African bowling line, he replied that he would like not to tweak the settled order.

“I hope that I would not need to change the batting order,” said the skipper. “I hope that our opening and top order batsmen score all the runs,” he added.

The Champions Trophy winning captain did not disclose the expected team combination on New Zealand’s turn and stated that they will form a line-up keeping in view the pitches prepared for the contests.

The 30-year old skipper is also satisfied with the batting performance of his team in the past few contests.

“Our batting line has delivered whenever needed, we scored 338 against India, chased 240 runs, then chased 235, our batting has improved and has also gotten deeper, especially with players like Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim in the lower order,” he stated.

On a question regarding Ahmed Shehzad’s place in the team, Sarfraz showed full support for the opener and told that he hopes to have him in the lineup for the T20i series.

“I have complete confidence in Ahmed Shehzad, he is a quality batsman,” told Sarfraz. “He has performed well in domestic, he also batted nicely in T20is.”

“Azhar Ali was replaced by Imam Ul Haq when he suffered a knee injury, Shehzad was given a chance as he was our first choice but unfortunately he could not perform, whereas, Imam struck a century on his debut. Now Azhar is back in the team in place of Shehzad after getting fit. I hope to see him (Shehzad) in the team for the T20i series,” he went on to say.

Sarfraz has led Pakistan to nine wins in the last ten 50-overs game they have played. They lost their last ODI on June 4 against India, which was the first game of Champions Trophy 2017, there has been no looking back since then.
