KARACHI: Former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs said that Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed has proved in the match against South Africa that ‘Catches win Matches’.
“Sarfraz played brilliantly with the bat when Pakistan top order had persistently been underperforming but he excelled behind the wickets much more,” Gibbs said in a local TV Channel program.
“Sarfraz has proved the cricket adage that ‘Catches win Matches’,” he added.
Sarfraz scored impressive 49 as opener in a match against South Africa when his team was clear underdog since the Proteas were pre-tournament favorite and had been scoring heavily in previous matches recording big victories.
However, Sarfraz was yet to show his specialist talent with gloves, which he went on to do in style as he took record-equaling six catches in the match. Sarfraz took a blinder when dangerous Hashim Amla edged, which perhaps is one of the best catches of the tournament.
Many cricket pundits have termed the moment when Sarfraz took Amla’s catch as turning point of the match.
