ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Inter-provincial Coordination (IPC) has called Pakistan Olympic Association (POA)’s president Lieutenant-General Syed Arif Hasan in its next meeting.
In Wednesday’s meeting, Federal Minister for IPC, Fehmida Mirza bashed POA’s president and official for having a negative influence on sports in the country.
“POA is having all the negative influence on sports in the country. They ban federations if they don’t vote in their favor. They ban athletes who speak against them and demand justice,” the minister told the committee.
“Olympian Javelin Thrower Arshad Nadeem had suffered from COVID-19 in Turkey during his training. No support was extended to him and he wasn’t able to train for four weeks,” she shared.
After listening to the IPC minister, the senate committee called Hasan and POA’s other officials in its next meeting. Olympian Arshad and Talha Talib, who finished fifth in Tokyo Olympics 2020, will also attend the next Senate committee meeting.
Meanwhile, a sub-committee was formed to review the situation of sports in the country and the structure of different federations.
