‘Series whitewash in Australia will benefit Pakistan’ says Basit Ali

Pakistan’s former Test cricketer Basit Ali thinks that the Test series whitewash against Australia will benefit the national team in their upcoming series.

While talking in ARY News’ ‘Sports Room’, Basit highlighted that the Test defeat in Australia will open the eyes of management and it will make a way forward for the team.

“Don’t worry it was a wake-up call for the team. The defeat at the hands of Australia will benefit the team. Take it easy,” he said.

Basit was off the view that this whitewash will bring ample chances for the deserving players. “Put it on record that now deserving players will get the chance in upcoming home Test series against Sri Lanka,” Basit marked.

“Players like Fawad Alam and Abid Ali got the advantage of this series defeat. It was good that these boys didn’t get a chance otherwise they too would have been in trouble,” he added.

Talking about the team’s spin bowling department, Basit revealed that soon the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will take the services of a former Test spinner. “Waqar Younis can’t handle spin department and the board has decided to take the services of Mushtaq Ahmed and it will be announced soon,” he said.

It must be noted here that Pakistan’s poor performance in Test series against Australia will lead to many changes in the team. According to some sources, domestic performer Fawad Alam will replace Iftikhar Ahmed for the Sri Lanka series. Pacer Usman Shinwari will also make a comeback in Test format.
