Shahid Afridi, on Tuesday, played his 500th list A match as his side Hampshire took on Gloucestershire in the Royal London one day cup at Bristol.
Playing in his 5ooth match the flamboyant Pakistan all rounder was not at his best as he failed to deliver with both bat and ball. Hampshire won the toss and decided to bowl first on a good batting pitch and the Gloucestershire side took full advantage of that to set a target of 353 in the allotted fifty over’s. Klinger (166) and Dent (142) both scored big centuries to help their side to this mammoth total.
Although Shahid Afridi was not able to pick up a wicket in his full quota of 10 over’s but he remained the most economical bowler of the evening as he conceded at a rate of 4.4 per over.
In reply the Hampshire side got close to the target courtesy some blistering late order hitting from Gareth Andrew (70 off 41 balls) but they fell short by 10 runs and ended up on 342-8 in 50 over’s. Sean Ervine scored 53 runs while Liam Dawson accumulated 57 runs. Shahid Afridi was rolled over for just 4 runs off 10 balls.
Michael Klinger was declared man of the match for his brilliant century at the top of the order for Gloucestershire.
