Shahid Afridi to play charity match for British soldiers


T20 captain Shahid Afridi will be playing a fundraising charity match “Cricket for Heroes” in England  for the welfare of former British soldiers.

According to details, Afridi will be a part of the team Help for Heroes XI which will compete against Rest of the World XI. He would play along with many world renowned former and current cricketer stars during this event.

This fundraising match for British charity organization ‘Help for Heroes’ will be played at the Ovals in England.  Shahid Afridi along with Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virender Sehwag will participate in this event. Other players include South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs, Australia’s Damein Martyn, England’s Graham Swan and Darin Giff, the team will be captained by former English captain Andrew Strauss.

Heroes XI will play against Rest of World XI led by Kiwis captain Brendon McCullum and will include former super star players like Matthew Hayden, Mahela Jayawardene, Brian Lara, Daniel Vettori and Graeme Smith. The purpose of playing this match is to raise funds for injured, sick and seriously wounded British soldiers and their families. Up to 30% of the amount will go to overseas welfare charities in conjunction with the invited players.

The inaugural ‘Cricket for Heroes’ fundraiser will be held at the Kia Oval in London on Thursday.
