BRISBANE: UAE batsman Shaiman Anwar of Pakistan origin scored a brilliant ton to help the side post a competitive total of 278-9 against Ireland in their World Cup Pool B match here at Gabba ground.
Shaiman, with the ton, has become the first UAE batsman to register a century for the minnows at the World Cup spectacle. Ireland reduced fellow associate team to 131-6 before Shaiman Anwar put a stellar performance for the team with his 106 runs off only 83 balls, which included 10 boundaries and a six.
Amjad Javed (42) stood with Shaiman to establish a seventh-wicket 107-run partnership.
Earlier, Amjad Ali (45) and Khurram Khan (36) contributed runs for the side.
