Centurion: Left-handed opener Fakhar Zaman revealed that Sharjeel Khan is one of his favorite cricketers and it would be fun if they both bat together.
The 30-year-old Fakhar, while talking to reporters in a virtual presser today, emphasized that he was looking for a great performance as it was due on him.
“Sharjeel Khan is one of my favorite cricketers, it will be great to bat alongside him. He makes cricket easy with his batting” Fakhar said.
“All the boys are feeling good after the series win [against South Africa]. I was not able to perform as per expectations and it was much needed from my side. I worked hard during my off time and thanks to captain, selectors for awarding opportunity,” he added.
Fakhar praises Babar
Fakhar was in awe of skipper Babar Azam, praising that his presence makes a big difference in the dressing room.
“Babar’s leadership qualities are great and he is quite different to what we all usually see. When your captain is such a big performer then the attitude of the team changes automatically. I feel confident batting alongside him as he makes things very simple,” he praised.
Ready to bat at any number for Pakistan
Fakhar was awarded a place in the T20Is after stellar performances in ODIs but there is still no confirmation regarding who will open the batting in T20Is as Babar and Mohammad Rizwan have done in the past before and now Sharjeel and Fakhar are in the squad too. Meanwhile, Fakhar is ready to bat at any position.
“As a professional cricketer, I am ready for any number. I think that due to bouncy pitches here in South Africa, a batter can bat at any number. I’ll accept any role which my team demands from me,” he maintained.
Note, Pakistan bagged the ODI series win 2-1 over South Africa. The green shirts will now lock horns against Proteas in a four-match T20I series.
