Former fast bowler of Pakistan Shoaib Akhtar has come to the defence of Virat Kohli, saying aggression has been a part and parcel of competitive cricket.
The Indian skipper has come under criticism after the showdown between him and rival captain Tim Paine during the second Test match between India and Australia in Perth.
While some cricketers have denounced Kohli’s actions, the Rawalpindi express backed him saying, “Virat Kohli is one of the modern greats of the game. Aggression has been a part and parcel of competitive cricket, especially when you are playing Down Under as long as it stays in the limit. Please cut him some slack,” Akhtar wrote on his official Twitter handle.

Earlier, Former Australia captain Allan Border also defends Indian skipper, saying that his antics might be over the top but the game needs characters who show passion.
Meanwhile, Australian coach Justin Langer also said that he doesn’t think there is much to it, in fact, it had a little bit of humour in it. “I thought it was brilliant. As the two captains and they’re trying to stamp their authority on the game and I don’t think at any point there was any abuse or any real aggression to it.”
On Tuesday, Tim Paine bagged his first Test win as a captain by thrashing India by 146 runs in Perth to secure a series-levelling victory.
