MUZAFFARABAD: Shoaib Malik and Sharjeel Khan put up a stunning show to lead Mirpur Royals to their first victory over Overseas Warriors in Kashmir Premier League (KPL).
Both the batters played swashbuckling knocks to lead their team chase 146 with the loss of five wickets in 18.1 overs. Set to chase 146 runs, the Royals got a strong 63-runs opening stand between Sharjeel and Mukhtar Ahmed.
The aggressive openers smashed the ball all around the park to provide a solid start to the Royals. Sharjeel got out after scoring 35 runs off 19 balls with the help of five boundaries.
But, Mukhtar continued with skipper Shoaib to keep the chase on. Shoaib was in solid touch with smashing 36 runs off 16 balls laced with two boundaries and three sixes. Even after Mukhtar walked off after scoring 45 spread over seven boundaries, Shoiab held the bowlers accountable for bad balls.
For the Warriors, Muhammad Musa bagged three wickets including the two dangerous wickets of Mukhtar and Shoaib. Agha Salman took a wicket.
Earlier, Salman Irshad took three crucial wickets to help the Royals restrict the Warriors to 145-6 in 20 overs. Kamran Ghulam was the highest run-scorer from the Warriors with 47 runs off 35 balls comprised of three boundaries and two maximums.
Azam Khan scored 32 runs off 40 balls with the help of a boundary and two sixes.
Apart from Salman, Abrar Ahmed, Sameen Gul, and Shoaib bagged a wicket.
