Sohaib, Khushdil keep Southern Punjab alive in semi-finals run


Rawalpindi: Sohaib Maqsood (67) and Khushdil Shah (53) propelled Southern Punjab (SP) to notch a convincing 70 runs victory over Sindh and make a case stronger for their team to qualify for National T20 Cup semi-finals. 

While batting first, SP posted 191-6 despite a poor start by losing their top three batsmen Shan Masood, Zain Abbas, and Hussain Talat for just 8 runs. But, Maqsood and Shah powered 121 runs together to take SP’s total from 8-3 to 129.

Maqsood struck six boundaries and four sixes while Shah smashed five boundaries and three sixes. Zeeshan Ashraf made 19 runs off 13 balls with the help of a six. Aamer Yamin, in the end, contributed 24 off 17 balls laced with two boundaries and a six to further strengthen his team’s total.

For Sindh, Danish Aziz bagged three wickets while Sohail Khan took two. Ghulam Mudassar took also took one.

In reply, Khurram Manzoor gave a strong start to Sindh with his power-hitting but wickets tumbling at the other end made things difficult for him. Khurram smashed 49 runs off 35 balls with the help of seven boundaries. Azam Khan managed to score just 14 including three boundaries while skipper Sarfaraz made 8.

Mohammad Ilyas and Zahid Mehmood bagged three wickets each for SP. Aamer Yamin, Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Imran shared a wicket apiece.
