Right-handed batsman Sohaib Maqsood smashed 88 runs to help Multan outclass Karachi Regions White by eight wickets in their first match of the National T20 Cup in Multan on Tuesday.
Maqsood played brilliantly hitting the ball all around the park. He struck three boundaries and seven towering maximums to amuse the crowd.
Karachi after winning the toss decided to bat and put 163-7 on the scoreboard in allotted 20 overs. Khurram Manzoor played a handy knock of 62 runs while Ramiz Raja Jr praiseworthy inning of 54 runs spread over five boundaries and a six.
Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Imran took two wickets each conceding 24 and 29 runs respectively.
Multan in reply cruised to the target with eight wickets in hand courtesy to Sohaib Maqsood who played captain’s knock.
Irfan Khan was the other prominent scorer for Multan with 67 runs laced with six boundaries and two sixes.
Raza Hasan and Rahat Ali of Karachi shared one wicket apiece. Sohaib Malik got the man-of-the-match award.
In another match of the day, Peshawar somehow managed to get to the target with two wickets in hand as superb bowling by Zia-ul-Haq(3-32) of FATA created a bit disturbance for them while chasing a paltry total of 125 runs.
FATA while batting first scored 124 for the loss of five wickets. Adil Amin made 44 runs and Asif Afridi contributed 19 runs to his team’s total. Imran Khan Sr and Waqas Maqsood bagged one wicket each.
In reply, Peshawar crossed the victory line with just one ball to spare. Nabi Gul was the top scorer with 34 runs.
Usman Mir alongside Zia-ul-Haq took 2-27 to make a worthy contribution with the bowl for FATA.
Lahore Region Blues will face Rawalpindi Region and Lahore Region Whites lock horns with Islamabad Region on Wednesday.
