The boxing day test match between England and South Africa begins at the Kingsmead stadium in Durban today. Both teams are have faced defeats in their previous test series respectively. The Proteas were outclassed by India while England were rolled over by Pakistan.
South African skipper Hashim Amla has been under criticism for his rare lean patch in terms of runs scored but the coach Russell Domingo is confident that it’s just a matter of time before the elegant right handed batsman is back to his best.
Quotes via the Afrikaans daily ‘Beeld’
“Amla’s record in the past six or seven years is better than most players in the world. He is so near a big innings, he hits the ball really well. There are just one or two things that must go right for him”
“I will not be surprised if (Amla) has a good innings against England,”
Amla has failed to score a century in his last 7 test matches but his home ground Durban could be the ideal place to start scoring runs again for the Proteas captain. It must be noted that Amla has a below par average of 20 at his home ground which is why it is imperative that he gets some runs under his belt.
