A below average batting show cost the Pakistan U-23 side the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Emerging Teams Cup trophy as Sri Lanka beat them comfortably by five wickets in the tournament finale at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Monday.

Pakistan wickets kept falling on consistent basis after opener Imran Butt departed in the fourth over and the whole line-up was sent back to the pavilion by the 42nd over after scoring a paltry 133.

Sri Lanka’s Shehan Jayasuriya was the pick of the bowlers for the winners, with figures of 3-22 in six overs.

Pakistan got off to a flying start in the second innings as Sameen Gul dimissed Avishka Fernando in the fourth over. Sadeera Samarawickrama, Sri Lanka’s other opener, however, stayed on the crease for longer, smashing a quickfire 45.

Pakistan were able to take five Lanka wickets but failed to contain the opponents from scoring the low target.
