Sri Lankan President assures sending home team to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena says his home cricket team will soon visit Pakistan to help neighboring country revive international cricket on its soil, ARY News reported.

The Sri Lankan President stated this during a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Mamnoon Hussain in Islamabad today.

President Mamnoon Hussain said attack on Sri Lankan team in Lahore back 2009 was regretful incident. He assured that any such terror attack will never occur in future.

He said Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka were on their way to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore for the third day of the second Test on March 3, 2009, when militants opened fire and threw grenades at their bus, killing eight people.

The match was abandoned, Sri Lanka left the country and other international teams have expressed reluctance to tour Pakistan because of security concerns.
