DUBAI: The launching ceremony of the first ever T10 Cricket league, which is believed to be revolutionizing for cricket, took place in Dubai on Tuesday.
Emirates Cricket Board member Shaji ul Mulk and Salman Iqbal, the CEO and President of ARY Digital Network and owner of Karachi Kings, are the joint partners of the T10 league. Mr. Shaji is the chairman while Mr. Iqbal is the president of the league.
The vice chairman of the Emirates cricket board Mr. Khalid Al-Zarooni and the owners of the teams participating in the tournament will attend the inauguration ceremony today.
The unique 10-over cricket tournament featuring well-known international players will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from December 21 to 25.
“Today you see that in all popular sports whether it’s football or volleyball, the matches are 90 minutes long so the only way we can bring cricket into the fold is through a 90-minute format which T10 can provide,” Shaji ul Mulk told ARY News about the idea behind the league.
Appreciating Shaji ul Mulk for organizing the unprecedented event, Mr. Salman Iqbal said that he feels this league will be extremely successful and will make cricket more popular than football.
The T10 league, being launched in association with Emirates Cricket Board, comprises six teams from the South Asian region.
Renowned cricketers Shahid Afridi, Inzamam ul Haq, Kumar Sangakkara, Shakib al Hassan, Virendra Sehwag and Eoin Morgan have been appointed ambassadors of the six teams.
Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi has said PCB will support T10 South Asia tournament if it is beneficial to the interest of all stakeholders. The board will continue to support Pakistani cricketers where they will play, he added.
Six teams named Colombo Kings, Maratha Arabians, Punjabi Legends, Pakthoons, Kerala Kings and Bangla Tigers will compete to win the gold in the tournament.
