Tennis bodies to provide financial support to 800 players


Manchester: ATP, WTA, ITF and four Grand Slam tournaments have set-up ‘Player Relief Programme’ to provide financial support to professional amid worldwide lockdown.

According to the details, the professional game will remain suspended at least until July 13. Meanwhile, players will suffer financial crisis hence the tennis bodies have come forward to support needy professional financially.

“The Player Relief Programme will target a total of approximately 800 ATP/WTA singles and doubles players collectively, in need of financial support,” tennis bodies said in a joint statement.

On the other hand, the Grand Slam tournaments – the Australian, French and US Opens, and Wimbledon – offer the biggest paydays of the year and have played their part in building the fund, which totals £4.81m.
