The glittering opening ceremony of the fourth season of the Pakistan Super League kicked off with Pakistan’s national anthem in Dubai.
Pakistan’s former opening batsman and renowned commentator, Ramiz Raja welcomed the fans and asked the representative of the main sponsor of the league, HBL, to address the ceremony.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Ehsan Mani addressed the ceremony and thanked sponsors, fans and franchises for their constant support.
“I want to thank the title sponsor, the fans and the six franchises, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United and Karachi Kings,” he said.
As Mani concluded his brief address, a band made its way into the stadium and performed on the song ‘the final countdown’.
Boney M made the whole crowd dive in nostalgia with their iconic songs, Daddy Cool and Ma Baker, which received loud cheers from the attendants.
Then there were the local singing sensations, Aima Baig and Shuja Haider sang the signature song of Nazia Hasan and Zohaib Hasan, ‘ Disco Deewane’.
The energetic performance from the legendary musical band, Junoon made the atmosphere absolutely electrifying. The jam-packed Dubai Stadium was rocked by their songs ‘Yar Bina Dil Mera’, their one of the first tracks ‘Heeray’ and ‘Yaaron Yahi Dosti Hai’.
When they sang ‘Hai Jazba Junoon’, the fans sang it with them in a chorus, it must have refreshed so many fond cricketing memories in their minds.
Fawad Khan and Young Desi performed the PSL anthem, while all the six league teams made their way into the stadium followed by outstanding fireworks, which lit the night Dubai sky.
Whereas, Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chairman Emirates Cricket Board concluded the ceremony by congratulating Pakistan Cricket Board for hosting eight of the 34 matches of PSL 4 in Pakistan.
