KARACHI: The seventeenth edition of Sindh Games kicked off in the National coaching centre Karachi. Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair inaugurated the Games that will end on Saturday.
Defending champions Karachi led the first day in Athletics, while Sukkur scored second and Hyderabad ranked third.
Karachi’s Arbab Tanoli won the first gold medal on the opening day of the games in men’s 5,000-meter race.
The 800-meter race also saw Karachi bagging another gold thanks to Akram while Hyderabad’s Hassan claimed a silver and Karachi’s Imam Majeed took home the bronze.
In the men’s netball event, Mirpurkhas beat Sukkur with a scoreline of 9-5, while Larkana beat Benazirabad 9-2.
Karachi’s Sehrish Qayyum won the gold medal in the 800-meter women’s marathon race, while Ayesha Nadeem also from Karachi bagged silver and Sukkur stood third bagging bronze medal.
In the four-day sporting event, 419 Gold, 419 Silver and 498 bronze medals will be awarded to the winners.
More than 3,000 players and athletes are participating in the Sindh Games after a 5-year break.
A total of 30 events will be hosted for the male athletes while female athletes will showcase their talent in 17 events over the next four days.
