Quetta: The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Shaharyar Khan has admitted the fact that the team which was selected for the under 19 world cup was not based on merit.
Shaharyar Khan said, while talking to media in Quetta, that it was a mistake to not select a squad based on merit and he will make sure that the same does not happen in the future. He added the the people involved in such an activity will be punished if this happens again in Pakistan cricket.
Shaharyar Khan added that from now on wards a strict approach will be considered as far as fitness is concerned because it is a pivotal part of the game. Pakistan cricketers are currently going through a rigorous training camp in Kakul which has highlighted some pretty serious concerns regarding the fitness of players.
The chairman also backed the decision to make Mudassir Nazar as head coach of National Coaching Academy and considered him as the best choice for this role. He also appreciated Nazar’s decision to leave a top post in ICC for the sake of serving his country.
Chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan also announced that they will make a regional academy where 2-3 coaches will be appointed to nurture the talent of the local areas which have been neglected in the past.
