Ahmed Shahzad gained his form back as he scored 111 runs to help Central Punjab chase 223 runs against Northern in the fifth match of the National T20 Cup at Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad on Tuesday.
Shahzad struck 13 fours and three sixes during his magnificent match-winning knock. It was the second ton of this tournament so far which comes off 63 balls.
Northern, after opting to bat first, put up a storming total off 222 runs on the scoreboard. Opener Umar Amin fought well after losing his partner Naved Malik and partnered with Mohammad Nawaz to take the team’s total from 23-2 to 59-3.
He scored 38 runs before getting out to leg-spinner Usman Qadir who finished with 1-32. Nawaz supported him well but his partnership of 107 runs with Asif Ali was eye-catching as they both fired the ball across all parts of the ground.
Asif was in great knick as he smashed 93 off just 35 balls laced with four boundaries and 10 maximums. Nawaz scored 50 off as many balls.
Faheem Ashraf was the pick of the bowlers with taking three wickets while conceding 44 runs in his four overs.
In reply, Central Punjab lost Babar Azam and Kamran Akmal earlier as they were reduced to 17-2.
Man-of-the match Ahmed was in full form as he partnered with Rizwan Hussain (20), Saad Nasim (29) and Faheem Ashraf (28) to mark a successful chase.
Skipper Imad Wasim took three wickets for Northern while left-arm pacer Sohail Tanvir bagged two.
