U19 World Cup: Afghanistan beat Pakistan by five wickets

Afghanistan U-19 cricket team defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup opener.

Batting first, The Green Shirts could manage to score just 188 runs and were all out in 47.4 overs. Pakistan lost early wickets of opener Muhammad Zaid without scoring a single run and Ammad Alam for 1. Wicketkeeper Rohail Nazir resurrected the innings in the company of Ali Zaryab Asif (30). The pair put on 88 off 138 balls.

In reply, Afghanistan chased down the total with five wickets in hand in the 48th over. Afghanistan’s Darwish Rasooli played a match-winning knock, scored 78 runs.

Pakistan’s Muhammad Musa dismissed three players. Darwish Rasooli was declared Man of the Match for his wonderful batting.

Earlier, Rohail Nazir was the star batsman for Pakistan as he took them to 188 against Afghanistan. Azmatullah and Qais Ahmad took three wickets each. Pakistan is twice world champions at the U-19 level and is the only side to have won the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup on back-to-back occasions in 2004 and 2006, respectively.

The opening day of the 22-day tournament will witness four matches.
