Peshawar: T20 captain Shahid Afridi says he did whatever he could to support Ahmad Shehzad and Umar Akmal but now they need to give regular performance to stay in the team.
While speaking to the media at Army Public School Peshawar, Shahid Afridi said lot of harm is being done due to the absence of school cricket. We are passing through a difficult period in cricket and our team’s performance is not as good as it should have been, we need to take this as a challenge. Shahid Afridi said my performance is better than other players because I do keep my presence felt at any one of the playing departments. Our team’s performance against New Zealand was not impressive. Cricket is a team game in which everyone needs to perform and we are hardly left with any chance for further mistakes, whoever performs well is going to play, I did whatever I could to support Ahmad Shehzad and Umar Akmal but now they need to give regular performance for survival.
Shahid Afridi said we’ll take many children from the Army Public School to PSL, we’ll also include 2 or 3 players from PSL in the World Cup, we desperately need to win, 7 or 8 players amongst the national team will have to show remarkable performance for a victory, everybody must realize his responsibility and play well as its not only a matter of wining or losing, rather it would be better to lose putting up a tough fight. The team will have to be careful making small mistakes because in T20 format the teams which make lesser mistakes move ahead. Afridi said after the Super League is over there might be changes in the team after consultation with the selection committee.
