Umar Akmal smashed 99 runs to laid down a solid foundation for Baluchistan as they defeated Sindh by 72 runs in the third match of the Pakistan Cup at Pindi Stadium on Thursday.
Amad Butt, the man-of-the-match, bagged three wickets to help Baluchistan restrict Sindh who were chasing a mammoth total of 347 runs.
Zeeshan Ashraf and Awais Zia started the show for Baluchistan as they were asked to bat first. Zia didn’t continue for long as the left-hander only scored 13 runs but Asad Shafiq and Zeeshan joined hands and provided a century stand for the second wicket.
Nauman Ali broke the partnership by bagging Zeeshan who smashed 75 balls with the help of nine boundaries and a six. Asad Shafiq made 53 runs off 47 balls.
Umar Akmal later stole the show once again smashing seven boundaries and six maximums. Rahat Ali hunted him as the right-hander fell just a run short to the century.
Amad Butt contributed 42 runs in the last part of the inning for Baluchistan to further strengthen their score.
Nauman Ali and Hammad Azam bagged two wickets each while Ashiq Ali, Rahat Ali and Umar Gul took a wicket each.
In reply, Umar Siddique played responsibly after Sindh lost Sahibzada Farhan early. He along with Ahsan Ali scored 92 runs for the second wicket. Ahsan who scored 42 runs supported his partner well by hitting four boundaries and a six.
Umar remained unlucky as he got run out after a splendid effort by Fawad Alam who with a powerful hit sent the left-hander back home. He made 88 runs off 64 deliveries including 12 fours and two sixes.
Umar Amin and Aamir Yamin played for a fighting 93-run partnership to rescue their team but couldn’t get enough runs on the scoreboard.
Umar scored 60 off 68 balls while Yamin managed to score 46 runs with the help of five boundaries and a six.
Apart from Amad, Mohammad Irfan bagged two wickets while Haris Rauf, Umar Khan, and Fawad Alma took a wicket each.
