Wahab, Adil help KP beat Federal Areas in Pakistan Cup


Adil Amin scored 70 runs to guide Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to a three-wicket victory over Federal Areas in the second match of Pakistan Cup at Pindi Stadium on Wednesday.

Tail-ender Sohail Khan struck a winning six in the last over of Mohammad Nawaz who was given a task to defend five runs. Wahab Riaz was on song with the bowl for Federal Areas as the left-arm pacer picked up five wickets conceding 52 runs in his 10 overs.

Federal Areas managed to score 264 runs after they decided to bat first after winning the toss. With a strong partnership of 94 runs between Ahmad Shahzad and Israrullah, Federal Areas were off to an impressive start.

Shahzad scored 55 runs with the help of eight boundaries while Israrullah smashed 77 runs off 74 balls including 10 boundaries. Wahab Riaz removed Shahzad in 17th over to turn things around for his team.

Federal Areas lost a couple of wickets in quick successions which provided relief to the opponents. Mohammad Nawa later played for scoring run-a-ball 62 runs to take his team to a defendable total. He struck seven boundaries.

Apart from Wahab Riaz, Sohail Khan took two wickets for Federal Areas.

The openers of KP Salman Butt and Abid Ali were failed to give their team a good start while chasing as Salman fell to Sameen Gul after scoring just 15 runs. Abid Ali walked off in the 11th over to give Zia-ul-Haq his first scalp of the match.

Saad and Adil then put 107 runs together on the scoreboard on the third wicket to make the chase easy for their side. Saad scored 64 runs with smashing seven boundaries and a six while Adil struck five boundaries and two sixes.

Khushdil Shah played sensibly by scoring 40 runs off 56 to support KP in last part of the inning. Sohail Khan scored 25 runs.

Sameen bagged three wickets while Zia-ul-Haq and Bilal Asif took two wickets each for the losing side.
