Former Pakistani pacer, Waqar Younis has joined Islamabad United as team director and the bowling coach of the team.

Islamabad United formerly had the services of Waqar’s bowling partner, Wasim Akram who mentored young cricketers of the team.

Islamabad United held a press conference, where they unveiled Waqar’s jersey having 794 as the shirt number.

Waqar coined it a great opportunity for himself, he is willing to travel to different regions and spot valuable talents.

“This is a great opportunity for me, we are going to target the smaller regions to identify talent and I am excited to be here,” said Waqar Younis during the press conference.

He further told that he always liked Islamabad United and now he is happy to be a part of it.

“When I used to see PSL from the outside, Islamabad United seemed like a family to me & I am thrilled to be a part of it,’ he told

On the other hand, the captain of first season’s winner, Misbah Ul Haq welcomed the legendary bowler onboard.

Misbah told that the franchise has been lucky to have Wasim Akram first to groom young bowlers and now they have Waqar to do the job.

“I can mentor the batsman but it was great for the bowlers to have Wasim Akram and now we will have Waqar Younis,” he told.

The franchise owner, Ali Naqvi told that Wasim taught bowlers like Rumman Raees to how to swing the ball and now the other half of the Two W’s will teach him toe crushers.

Wasim has now joined the new franchise of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in the capacity of team director.
