Pakistan’s former captain and fast bowler, Waqar Younis has emerged as the strongest candidate to hold the post of national team’s bowling coach replacing Azhar Mehmood.
The one half of the feared bowling duo of Two W’s, Waqar, had a prolific playing career and has served Pakistan as the head coach and bowling coach previously.
Apart from the Bhurewala Express, Mohammad Akram and Jalaluddin also applied for the post, however, Akram withdrew his application, while Jalaluddin did not appear for the interview.
The five-member panel, which includes Waseem Khan, Intikhab Alam, Bazid Khan, Zakir Khan and Asad Ali Khan, will short-list the candidates for the coaching roles after interviewing them and will advise the PCB chairman, Ehsan Mani.
The panel has also interviewed the former Australian batsman, Dean Jones on a video link for the post of head coach, who also shared his plan during the interview.
