Australia’s legendary leg spinner Shane Warne believes that India did not do their basics right which resulted in hosts being ousted from the World T20.

According to details Warne backed India to win the title but few mistakes at the wrong time proved costly as India had to make an early exit from the World T20 2016 but he praised the way talented Virat Kohli batted during the match as it laid a foundation for such a big score.

“I backed India for the title before the tournament, but on Thursday they did not do their basics right. The couple of no-balls and the dew cost them dearly,” said Warne at a ‘Monarch Cruise’ function here on Friday

“Virat Kohli did so well yesterday. He’s the best T20 player at No. 3 for me,” said Warne, about Kohli’s unbeaten 89 which laid the foundation for India’s big score.

Regarding the final Warne said that he will not comment on who will be the favorites before taking a look at pitch for the final.

“I thought 192 was a good score, but in 20-20 anything can happen. When Chris Gayle was out (cheaply), I thought India will win. But credit to the West Indies and now I look forward to the final against England (April 3 in Kolkata).

“I will have to look at the wicket and conditions in Kolkata before commenting,” said Warne, when asked who was the favourite for the title.

Warne name is in the mix to take over coaching duties as Indian coach but the leg spinner said that he quite busy in other commitments which includes being a TV broadcaster and a professional poker player.

“I never said no to anything and India is a very talented team. But there are very few free days left in the year (because of his various commitments). If you are not 100 per cent you should not say yes (to any proposition). If any opportunity comes about down the line I will think about it,” he added.

India’s current team director Ravi Shastri immediately came to an end as India got knocked out of the World T20 but his contract can be renewed if the special committee consisting of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman deems fit according to BBCI secretary Anurag Thakur.

“Ravi Shastri’s contract has ended. We are looking at a full-time coach and the decision will be taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee. There won’t be a Team Director and a full-time coach. It will be only one post and even Ravi’s contract can come up for renewal,” BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said
