Potchefstroom: Pakistan U19 has defeated the Scotland U19 by seven wickets in their first fixture of the ICC U19 World Cup 2020 in South Africa.
Captain Rohail Nazir (27) and Irfan Khan (38*) cruised Pakistan to a convincing victory after bowling Scotland U19 for just 75 runs. Pakistan successfully chased the target in the 12th over for the loss of three wickets.
Pakistan U19 early in the innings got into trouble when both their openers Haider Ali and Mohammad Shehzad were dismissed in just 1.2 overs.
Scotland U19 won the toss and decided to bowl first but Green shirts dismantled them courtesy Mohammad Waseem 5 for 12 in 7.5 overs.
Tahir Hussain and Abbas Afridi were the other two who divided the other five wickets. Tahir bagged 3-23 whereas Abbas claimed 2-33 in nine overs he bowled. Tomas Mackintosh and Syed Shah were the only two batsmen who reached double-figures.
Pakistan will now face Zimbabwe U19 at the same venue on January 22.
