The Sultan of Swing, Wasim Akram recalled Younis Khan’s debut Test against Sri Lanka where he had a 145 runs stand with the debutante, the legendary fast bowler knew at that time that this kid has got something special.
“My first partnership with Younis in his debut test showed me that this guy has the x-factor required to succeed at this level,” Wasim Akram said.
Younis Khan and Misbah Ul Haq came out to bat for one last time for Pakistan on Saturday in the third Test against West Indies. They scored 35 and 2 runs respectively. The duo got guard of honour from teammates as well as from their opposite team.
Wasim Akram believes that the retirement of Younis Khan and Misbah Ul Haq will leave a huge vacuum in Pakistan’s Test team, he hopes that youngsters step up and fill the shoes.
“Younis Khan’s retirement will leave a huge void to fill, it is time for the younger kids to follow his example and buckle down,” he said. “Misbah Ul Haq’s Test record speaks for itself and now that he is retiring, I fear for our test team. I hope the younger guys take up Misbah and Younis’ roles fast, it obviously will take time but the young guns have to follow examples of these two,” he added.
The highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in Test cricket has all respect for Pakistan’s test skipper. Wasim Akram has worked with Misbah Ul Haq in Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Islamabad United, where he found him extremely impressive.
“Having worked with Misbah at Islamabad United I have gathered huge respect for him and his captaincy,” he said.
