The Sultan of swing, Wasim Akram has backed the idea of having one captain of the team across all the three formats of the game instead of different skippers.
Wasim Akram coined Pakistan’s cricket culture different and said, “Pakistan cricket culture is different. I don’t think it is sensible to have three different captains because in our set-up where we don’t properly follow one leader, how do you expect players to follow three different leaders,”
The former Pakistan captain came up with these words after the wicketkeeper was handed over the captaincy band after Shahid Afridi stepped down. Whereas, Misbah Ul Haq and Azhar ali will lead Pakistan in test and ODI formats respectively.
Wasim Akram followed Imran Khan’s idea of having a single captain for all the formats and said, “I would like to see one captain for all three formats and this would be ideal for our cricket,”
The Pakistan Cricket Board has given Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja the responsibility to find a new head coach for the team. There were allegations from Aaqib Javed that he will not apply for the post as the duo appointed has made up their mind to hire a foreigner coach.
Wasim Akram defended this saying they are having an open mind, “I have no preset ideas or mindset. We have an open mind to all options. Regardless of whether we have a foreign or local coach, one thing is clear the candidate must come with a proper understanding of Pakistan cricket and a full plan to improve the cricket set-up”.
